Accounting settings fields
Under Integrations in your organisation's settings. Needs organisation-admin access.
The connection
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Provider | Which accounting system this connection is for |
| Name | A label for the connection |
| Status | Active, paused, or in error |
| Last error | Kept until the next successful sync clears it |
Credentials are never shown back once saved.
The two providers
| Provider | Signs in with | Chart of accounts | Can be re-authorised |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xero | Xero's own sign-in | Yes — read from the connection | Yes |
| Manual accounting | Nothing to sign in to | No | No |
Manual accounting has no external system behind it. Categories, tax handling and records still work; nothing is sent anywhere.
Two consequences follow from there being no connection: there is no chart of accounts to pick from when mapping, and there is nothing to re-authorise, so that action does not appear.
Where no provider is connected at all, screens use the neutral word Accounting rather than naming one.
Organisation selection
A provider account can contain more than one organisation. The connection is tied to one of them, chosen after signing in — see choose a Xero organisation.
Getting this wrong posts real documents into the wrong set of books, which is why it is a deliberate step rather than a default.
Mappings
Not fields on the connection but part of its setup:
- Accounting categories → the provider's accounts. See accounting category fields.
- Tax categories → the provider's tax codes. See tax category fields.
- Payment methods → how money reaches you, and which gateway names mean which. See payment methods and gateways.
Unmapped configuration does not lose entries. They are held until it exists.
Disconnecting
Available in the connection's danger zone and asks for confirmation. Pausing is the reversible option and is usually what is wanted first — it stops posting without ending the relationship.
