Pending is not a problem
A queue of pending entries means the dispatcher has work, not that anything is stuck. Volume moves through it.
Pending entries that are not clearing over a longer period are worth a look, but a queue at a busy moment is the outbox doing its job.
Why an outbox at all
So a provider being slow or briefly unavailable neither loses anything nor blocks the warehouse. Entries queue and go when they can; picking and dispatching carry on regardless.
It also means a transient failure retries on its own. Failed means the retries were used up or the provider rejected it in a way retrying will not fix — not that one attempt went wrong.
Failed is not the same as held
Failed entries were built and sent. They exist and the provider refused them.
Held entries were never built, because a connection or account was missing. They are not in the outbox at all and appear under Issues instead.
Retrying works for the first and does nothing for the second. See the three queues.
What a successful post records
What was posted, as which kind of document, and against which order or receipt — with its composition per account and tax code pair, which is what lets a later edit book correctly. See editing an order after posting.
