Customer accounts

A customer account is a business you trade with. It is the commercial relationship, distinct from the individuals who place the orders.

Many buyers, one account

Three people from the same company ordering separately are three customers linked to one account.

That is the point of the separation. Commercially they are one customer: one set of terms, one arrangement about invoicing, one relationship. Operationally they are three people with their own names, emails and delivery addresses.

Without accounts you would either lose the individuals or repeat the commercial arrangement three times and watch it drift apart.

What an account carries

The commercial arrangement: how the business is invoiced, how long it has to pay, its currency, and the reference used when posting to your accounting system.

Not all of it does something. Some fields are recorded for your reference and nothing reads them — which is worth knowing before relying on one. See what an account decides.

The three types

Trade — an ordinary business customer. A wholesaler, a retailer, a business buying for itself. This is the usual one.

Inter-company — used where organisations in the same group trade with each other, and the type the trade features attach to. If your organisations sell to one another, this is the type that relationship uses.

Reseller — a partner selling your catalogue under their own brand. Selectable, and recorded on the account. Nothing in Yessort currently behaves differently because of it, so treat it as a label for your own reporting rather than a setting that changes anything.

Status

An account is active or not. An inactive account keeps its history and its buyers; it is a record that you are not currently trading with them.

Accounts and pricing

An account cannot be given its own price list from the Yessort screens. The data model allows a price list scoped to a customer account, but there is no field anywhere in the UI to set one — the same is true of customer groups and sales channels.

In practice the default list for the currency is what applies. See sales price lists.

Creating one

An account needs a name, a code, a currency and a type. Everything else is optional. See create a customer account.
