Add a customer
Most customers arrive on their own, created when an order comes in from a connected store. You add one by hand for a buyer who did not — a phone order, a trade customer set up before their first order, a walk-in.
Under Customers.
Steps
- Go to Customers and add a new one.
- Enter their name and contact details.
- Add a billing address, and a delivery address if it differs.
- If they buy on behalf of a business, link them to that customer account.
- Save.
The account link is the important field
Linking a customer to an account makes them a trade buyer, and their commercial arrangement — payment terms, invoicing — comes from the account rather than from them.
Leaving it unset makes them an ordinary consumer buyer. There is no other flag; this is the whole distinction.
If the business does not have an account yet, create it first — linking afterwards is possible but doing it in order saves work.
A duplicate email is fine
Yessort will let you save a customer with an email another record already uses, and that is intended. Guest checkouts repeat addresses freely, and the same person may buy both privately and for a business.
So do not merge or avoid a record simply because the email matches — check whether it is genuinely the same buyer in the same capacity first.
Terms on the customer
A customer can carry their own payment terms, and those beat their account's. Set them only for a genuine individual exception; the account is where terms usually belong. See payment terms.
What happens next
The record is available to place orders against straight away, including manual orders.
A retention horizon is set on creation, and extends each time they order. See data retention and anonymising.
