Create a customer group
A group labels a set of customers so you can see them together.
Under Customers → Groups.
Before you start
A group does not change anything. Prices do not differ, no rule keys off membership, and nothing behaves differently because a customer is in one.
If you are creating a group to give a set of customers different prices, it will not do that. There is no way to scope a price list to a group from the Yessort screens — see customer groups.
Worth knowing first, because the name suggests otherwise.
Steps
- Go to Customers → Groups and add a new one.
- Enter a Name, a Code and a Description.
- Save.
- Add customers to it.
Write a description that says why
Since the group does nothing on its own, the description carries its whole meaning. "Tier 2" tells a colleague nothing; "Wholesale customers who agreed 60-day terms in 2026" tells them what it is for and what to do about it.
Whoever reads this next will act on the description or not at all.
What groups are genuinely useful for
Recording a segmentation you act on elsewhere — customers needing a call before dispatch, or a particular contact.
Finding a set of customers as a group rather than one at a time.
Membership
A customer can belong to several groups. Removing them from one leaves the others untouched.
If you need behaviour
The group will not provide it. An arrangement that must be applied — a price, a term — has to be set where it actually takes effect: on the customer account, or on the customer.
