Link a customer to an account

Linking a customer to a customer account makes them a trade buyer acting for that business.

Under Customers.

Steps

  1. Open the customer.
  2. Set their customer account.
  3. Save.

What changes

Their commercial arrangement now comes from the account: its invoicing strategy, and its payment terms unless the customer has their own.

Nothing about them as a person changes. Their name, contact details and addresses stay theirs — the link is about who they buy for.

Several buyers, one account

Link as many customers to an account as order for that business. They share the commercial arrangement while staying distinct people with their own contact details and delivery addresses.

This is the point of accounts: one arrangement, many buyers, and no need to repeat the arrangement on each of them.

Unlinking

Clearing the account makes them a consumer buyer again, and their orders stop inheriting the account's arrangement.

Orders already placed keep what applied at the time. Unlinking does not reach back and re-invoice or re-term anything already done.

When someone buys in both capacities

A person who sometimes buys for their business and sometimes for themselves is best handled as two customer records — one linked, one not.

Yessort allows this: email is not unique, precisely so the same person can exist in two capacities. Trying to serve both from one record means their personal orders inherit trade terms, or the reverse.

What linking does not do

It does not change prices. An account cannot carry its own price list from the Yessort screens, so the price a trade buyer sees is the same default one — see sales price lists.

It does not apply a credit limit. The limit on an account is recorded and never checked. See what an account decides.
