The stock movement record
Every physical change to how much stock you hold is recorded, with a type saying what kind of change it was.
Not the same as the ways stock moves
Two pages sound similar and answer different questions.
The six ways stock moves is about which mechanism to reach for — move, transfer, putaway, replenishment, scan move, adjust. It is a page you read before doing something.
This page is about the record those mechanisms write. It is what you read afterwards, working out what happened.
Mechanisms on one side, the ledger on the other.
One action often writes two rows
The thing most likely to mislead you.
Movements come in pairs wherever stock leaves one place and arrives in another:
- A bin-to-bin move writes a leg out and a leg in. Net zero at the site — nothing was created or lost, it just sits somewhere else now
- A transfer writes a leg out at the sending site and a leg in at the receiving one
- Picking writes a leg out of the sellable location and a paired leg into dispatch staging
So reading the history and counting rows will overstate what happened. Two rows for one move is the record being complete, not stock being double counted.
The full list, with which types pair, is in stock movement types.
Every type means something to accounting
Movement types are not just labels for a history screen. They select which journal the accounting integration posts.
Stock received, stock sold, stock written off and stock lost to a count all have different accounting consequences, and the movement type is how Yessort tells them apart. See what Yessort posts.
A practical consequence: recording something as an adjustment when it was really a write-off produces the wrong journal. The type matters beyond the warehouse.
Adjustments carry a reason
A manual correction records why, chosen from your organisation's list of adjustment reasons.
The reason is what makes an adjustment reviewable later. "Someone changed this by minus twelve" is not useful; "minus twelve, damage" is.
The record is not editable
Movements are what happened. A mistake is corrected by recording a further movement, not by changing or removing the original — same principle as an invoice already sent.
So the history only grows, and it can be relied on.
