Buy and print courier labels

  1. Open the order and go to its Dispatch card, once the fulfilment group is packed.
  2. Choose the Carrier, confirm or enter the Service code, then select Buy labels.
  3. The card shows buying label… while the courier call is in flight, then label bought once it's done. The label and tracking number are stored against the shipment, and each parcel's tracking number below is filled in automatically — you don't need to enter it by hand.

Reprint

Select Reprint to send the same labels to the printer again. This doesn't buy new postage and the tracking numbers don't change — use it when a label jams or a print job goes missing.

Void

Select Cancel label. This voids the shipment with the carrier where they allow it, and clears the parcels' tracking numbers. You can buy a new label straight afterwards.

When a label fails

If the courier call fails after retries, the card shows the shipment as failed, with the error underneath. Select Clear and retry to clear the failed attempt, then buy again — with the same carrier or a different one.

Only one label attempt is live at a time, so voiding a label or a failure leaves you free to buy again straight away. See the shipment statuses reference for the full lifecycle.

Labels come through as ZPL or PDF depending on the printer set up at the site — a thermal label printer gets ZPL, otherwise the label is a PDF.

Tracking updates

Courier tracking updates are available but off by default, because some carrier contracts charge per tracking call. Ask us to switch tracking polling on for your account — once it's on, the shipment's latest courier status shows on this card, and a delivered shipment marks itself delivered.

Permissions

Buying, reprinting and voiding labels is gated on the same permission set as picking and packing, not the order one — warehouse staff can do this with read-only access to orders.
