Get your printers discovered

You do not add printers to Yessort. The agent finds them and reports what it can see.

So this is really about making sure the machine running the agent can reach the printers you want to use.

Steps

  1. Make sure the printer is on and on the network.
  2. Check the machine running the agent can reach it — either as a print queue set up on that machine, or at its network address.
  3. Wait for the agent to report in.
  4. The printer appears under Printing in your settings.

Make it reachable from that machine

The test is simple: if the computer running the agent can print to it, Yessort will find it.

For a printer already set up on that machine, nothing more is needed — the agent sees the queue.

For a thermal label printer on the network, the machine needs to be able to reach its address. This is usually the case already if they are on the same network.

If a printer does not appear

Check the device is online first. No agent reporting means nothing is being discovered — see pair a device.

Check from the machine itself. Can that computer print to it outside Yessort? If not, the problem is between the computer and the printer, and fixing it there fixes it here.

Give it a moment. Discovery happens when the agent reports in, not instantly.

One printer, one entry

A printer visible both as a queue on the machine and at a network address appears once, not twice — Yessort recognises they are the same.

If you were expecting two entries, there is no second one to find.

Once it appears

It shows as discovered and is ready to use. To have jobs go to it, either make it a site default or route to it.

Set its loaded stock to match the labels actually in it, so mismatches are flagged before a roll is wasted. See printer kinds and statuses.

Printing a test

Send a test print to confirm the whole chain works before relying on it.
