Install the print agent
The print agent is what collects print jobs and sends them to your printers. Until one is running at a site, nothing there prints.
Under Printing in your settings. Needs organisation-admin access.
Choose the computer first
The agent has to run on a machine that can reach your printers — same network, same building.
Worth thinking about before you install:
It needs to be on when people print. A laptop somebody takes home is a poor choice. A machine that stays in the warehouse is a good one.
One per site is usually enough. A single agent serves all the printers it can reach, so you do not need one per printer.
Anyone's day-to-day computer will do, provided it stays on and stays on the network.
Steps
- Go to Printing in your settings.
- Open the agent installer page.
- Download the agent for the machine you are installing on — a menubar app on a Mac, a tray app on Windows.
- Install and run it.
- Pair it with your site.
After it is running
It appears in Yessort as a device, paired to one site, and reports in regularly so you can see whether it is online.
It then tells Yessort what printers it can see, and those appear ready to use — see get your printers discovered.
Nothing needs opening up
The agent reaches out to Yessort rather than the other way round, so there is nothing to expose to the outside world for it to work.
If prints stop later
The usual cause is the agent not running — the machine was shut down, or the app was quit.
Jobs are not lost when that happens. They queue, and print when the agent is back. See fix a print that did not appear.
