Pair a device

Pairing tells Yessort which site this machine serves, and gives it a token to authenticate with.

Under Printing in your settings. Needs organisation-admin access.

Steps

  1. Open the agent installer page while signed in.
  2. Choose the site this machine serves.
  3. Register the device. Yessort creates it and its token together, and hands the token to the running agent.
  4. The device appears as online.

Because the page creates the device and passes the token across, there is normally nothing to type or copy.

Choose the site carefully

A device belongs to one site — the building it is in.

It decides which jobs this machine collects: jobs for that site, and no others. Pair it to the wrong site and it will sit online collecting nothing while the right site prints nothing.

The token is shown once

It is displayed at registration and never again. Yessort keeps only a hashed form — enough to check a token later, not enough to reproduce it.

If you lose it, pair the device again rather than looking it up. There is nothing to look up.

Same reasoning as an API key: a credential you can read back later is one that can leak later.

Several devices at one site

Allowed, and sometimes sensible — a big warehouse with printers on separate networks, or a machine per packing area.

Each is paired separately and collects jobs for the same site.

Checking it worked

The device shows online, and within a short time its printers appear.

No printers appearing usually means the machine cannot see them rather than a pairing problem — see get your printers discovered.

Who can see it

Anyone with access to the site. In a shared warehouse that means every organisation operating there — the hardware is shared, so the record of it is too.
