Label template subject types
Every template is for one subject. The subject decides what data the label can show.
| Subject | Describes | Typically shows |
|---|---|---|
| Product | A variant | Name, SKU, barcode, price, and lot dates where the variant has lots |
| Location | An addressable spot inside a site | The location's code and a barcode to scan it |
| Licence plate | A licence plate — a scannable container | The plate's identifier and barcode |
The subject limits what you can put on
A location label cannot show a price, because a location does not have one. A product label cannot show a plate identifier.
So pick the subject first. It is not a category for tidiness — it determines what data is available to place.
One default each
One template per subject can be the default: the one a print button uses when nobody chooses.
Three defaults in total, one per subject. Most printing needs no decision — press print on a product and the default product template is what comes out.
Changing which template is the default takes effect immediately for anything printed afterwards. It does not alter labels already printed — see label templates.
Templates are organisation-wide
A template belongs to your organisation and every site uses the same ones. A product label looks the same wherever it was printed.
Which printer it goes to is per-site. The design is not.
Status
Draft while you are working on it. Active once in use. Archived when retired.
There is no version history — a template is a layout, rendered fresh each print, so there is nothing to roll back to.
