When a channel disagrees

A channel can tell Yessort which of its locations an order line is meant to come from. Your rules may reach a different answer. Something has to decide which wins.

The setting

Each channel carries a policy: whether an incoming line's location hint decides its site, or whether Yessort's own routing does. Left unset, the organisation's routing default applies. It sits with the channel's other settings — see channel settings fields.

Honour the hint suits a channel that genuinely knows where its orders come from — a store whose fulfilment is already organised on its side.

Run the rules suits a channel whose hint is a guess, or a default nobody configured.

The engine runs either way

This is the part worth understanding. Even when a channel's hint is honoured, the engine still runs. Its answer is not used for the assignment, but it is compared.

Where the two agree, nothing happens. Where they disagree, the hint is honoured and the disagreement is recorded as a routing exception.

Why record rather than resolve

Because the disagreement is information about your rules.

A channel that keeps choosing a different site from your rules is telling you one of two things: either your rules do not reflect how fulfilment actually works, or the channel is sending hints that no longer make sense. Both are worth knowing, and neither is visible if the system quietly picks one and moves on.

So the exceptions queue is not an error log. It is feedback. A queue trending down over time means your rules are converging on reality — which is the point of keeping it.

What an exception covers

A whole order, or a single line. A disagreement on one line of a five-line order records that line, not the order.

The order is not stuck

An exception does not block anything. The hint was honoured, the site was assigned, and the order proceeds normally. Resolving the exception is about your rules, not about unblocking that order — which is why the queue can be worked through at your own pace.
