The six ways stock moves

Yessort has six different mechanisms that change where stock sits, or how much of it there is. They overlap in what they touch, so it's easy to reach for the wrong one. This page compares them; each links through to the page that covers it properly.

Adjust stock is the only one of the six that changes a site's total on-hand. Reach for it when the physical count and Yessort's record disagree and you need to correct the figure directly, rather than move stock that's already accounted for correctly.

Move stock re-slots a variant between two locations in the same site — for example, moving it into a better bin, or consolidating scattered stock into one spot. Nothing leaves the site, so the site's on-hand doesn't move.

Transfer is the only mechanism that moves stock between two sites. It takes several steps — hold, dispatch, receive — and the source and destination stock figures move at different moments along the way, even though the organisation's total stays the same throughout.

Putaway doesn't move stock anywhere new in the way the others do — it places stock that has already arrived, out of the receiving location and into where it will actually be stored. It only applies on a site using advanced locations, and only to lines that weren't received onto a licence plate.

Replenishment task moves stock that's already at a site from a reserve location into a pick face, so a picker doesn't find one empty. It never brings stock in from outside — that's reordering, a different system entirely.

Scan to move relocates a whole licence plate — and everything on it — to a different location at the same site, in one step. It's the only way to move a plate as a unit; putaway doesn't apply to plated lines. Individual stock still comes off a plate as it's needed — picking, counting, replenishment and transfers all draw on it where it stands.
